Description
Stegosaurus was a dinosaur that lived between a hundred and fifty five million and one hundred forty four million years ago, during the Jurassic Period. Remains have been found in the western portion of North America and in Europe. It was a plant-eating quadruped with a high rounded back and two rows of plates that end with four to ten spikes, known as a Thagomizer after a Far Side comic drawn by Gary Larson. It was discovered in 1877 by O.C. Marsh during the Great Dinosaur Rush, a.k.a The Bone Wars between Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope.
Originally, this dinosaur was thought to have large armored plates on its skin that resembled a shingled roof. Because of this idea that guided an early reconstruction of the fossilized skeleton, it was given the name Stegosaurus, who’s Greco-Latin name translates to “covered lizard” or “roofed lizard.” The modern arrangement of these plates is more like a mohawk than a shingled roof.
The Stegosaurus Deluxe Kit includes everything you need to successfully assemble the tiny skeleton model for display. Each kit comes with the pre-cut Stegosaurus bones, 55mm borosilicate glass display dome, exhibit base, glue, tweezers, and a magnifier.
Tinysaur Kits assemble into tiny skeletons from a postage stamp sized laser cut pattern. Assembly generally takes 20-30 minutes and the completed stegosaurus models stand roughly 2 inches tall.
We’ve also built 3D instructions for the Stegosaurus skeleton model here. You can zoom in, pan, and rotate each step of the assembly to see the orientation and fit of specific bones.
