Wood Sculptures for Brooklyn College Night 2012

Last year, I got a great opportunity to sculpt the Coney Island Parachute Drop for Brooklyn College’s annual alumni dinner. This year, they flattered me by asking for more centerpieces! I love Brooklyn College! Keeping with the Brooklyn-centric theme, we set out to design a wood sculpt of the Wonder Wheel and the Manhattan Bridge that would look pretty with flowers around thei bases. The night was a big success. A set of 3 sculptures (Wonder Wheel, Manhattan Bridge, and Coney Island Parachute Drop fetched 4 figures at auction to benefit Brooklyn College! All 30 centerpieces were claimed by the end of the night. See more pix on Flickr.

Ring-A-Day: Acrylic Grass

This green rod is less than 2mm thick. It has lots of internal reflection so the ends glow in the brighter colors. Couldn’t find brown acrylic for the soil. I’ll set my time machine to 1974 and get some old bills from my grandmother. Our new money won’t pass for cash in ’74. Guess I could take a pile of quarters from before ’74. Boy, they’d look beat up for only having been in circulation for a few years. I’ll have to make sure my clothes don’t look too futuristic, too. Oh wait, they’re expecting spandex jumpers and ray guns in the future. I’ll just wear cotton.
