Ring-A-Day: Half-round BronzClay Ring

Attempted a half-round metalclay ring. The ring split in the kiln. Could be that I didn’t add enough slip to the join. A little filing and solder fixed it right up. Tapped it back to round on the mandrel, and voila! Good to know that BronzClay rings are malleable enough to resize.

Ring-A-Day: Rough Champagne Ring

Embeddable prongs sure beat hand-rolled prong failure (see yesterday’s ring). Makes setting a 6mm Champagne CZ much easier too. Don’t worry, I’ll try the hand-rolled kind again soon.

I polished the inside of the setting to bounce some light into the stone and left the shank rough. I kinda like the look.

Ring-A-Day: Prong Fail

BronzClay didn’t like what I did to it. Its prongs kept falling off. The security of the stone was at risk, so today’s ring is going in the scrap bin.

Ring-A-Day: Buckle Ring

Small and mumpy bumpy lumpy. I’m loving these BronzClay experiments. I get something similar with sand casting, but even that has sharp edges and fine details. The MetalClay is free to move about the cabin while in the kiln going about its atomic sintering.

Ring-A-Day: BronzClay with holes

I pierced this band and scored a centerline with interesting results. There was one big bubble, probably from a piece of wax that got mixed into the clay. It’s like the bubble on a pizza crust, but really hard. I left the piece rough. There’s something nice about how un-geometrically these pieces fire.
