Ring-A-Day: Red Flame Ring

I was looking for translucency in silicone for a client project. The dyes were coming out opaque at the color density I needed. Marc, at The Compleat Sculptor, suggested colored flock — the stuff on fuzzy Valentine’s candy boxes and Hallmark cards — to let light pass through. I stirred in too much for this ring so it doesn’t let much light through, but it’s a nice subtle depth effect when you hit it.

This ring is made from Dragon Skin silicone.

Ring-A-Day: Epoxy and Rhinestones Ring

Fast epoxy is just that — fast. You’ve got to have a plan. I tried to sculpt a bit more, but it really feels like a game show with a buzzer. One thing that slowed everything down was keeping the mandrel cold. The epoxy in my hands set up really quickly. If I keep this up, I might set up a peltier cooler to slow down the chemical reaction.
