Got an email about an amazing new sculpting epoxy. You can drill it, file it, sand it, and paint it. The catch is that you’re gonna have to drill, file, and sand it because it sets up in 6 minutes including mixing time. It’s a chaotic mush fest with a timer. I’ll give it another try, but it’s really guerilla sculpting.

It must be the holidays because there’s nougat everywhere. This ring was inspired by pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds, milk, eggs, honey, and powdered sugar!
I carved a ring from foam aluminum an then pressed epoxy putty into all the voids.
This is another experiment in the foam aluminum ring series.

I discovered the simplicity of paying homage to Samo © graffiti in wire. Basquiat’s contemporary, Keith Haring, sometimes painted images of a radiant crawling infant on blackened subway ads. (a.k.a Atomic Baby).
I don’t usually show you the failures, but today’s evolution was inspiring and clear. The “Radiant Manatee” in the middle grey steel wire was just too thick to render an icon at finger scale. Next was a 1 mm brass rod (left) and then a 1/2 mm brass wire (right). Let me know which is your favorite.

Finally, a foam aluminum ring in my size. The pinky ring was supposed to be a size 12 like this one, but it didn’t work out that way. I used a drill saw, which looks like a round file with a drill bit tip, that really gave me a lot more control with the material. Drill saws cut sideways after they make a hole.
Learning about challenging new materials and tools for creative jewelry is what this project is all about. 98 rings to go!
