Vulcanized another popsicle stick today after stamping it with my letter stamps. The type and the stick shrank, effectively giving me another font to work with!

I vulcanized a popsicle stick in organic rubber, then cast pewter in the cavity. The stick came out of the mold thinner, like a coffee stir. The wood grain was more dramatic. I’m definitely going to experiment further since I have many popsicle sticks left.
Vulcanization involves 350°F and about 50 tons of hydraulic pressure. It stinks like a tire store, too.

The borough where innovation is blossoming in so many ways. It’s the borough of NYC Resistor and MakerBot. It’s the borough where the Museum has a community mission and the Garden is easy to get to. BBG’s koi pond is relaxing to visit. So is the humid room. The museum has an amazing and free community night on the first Saturday of every month (tonight!) as does NYC Resistor every Thursday night.
…and who can forget Betty? (Don’t tell my wife.)
