I started with the finger hole today on the foam aluminum sheet and worked my way outward. Yesterday’s ring was worked inward. The first hole I bored had a large void in it. discovering this before I was half-way into the project was great. As I worked with it, the finger hole became square, so I followed the material. To make it more comfortable to wear, I rounded all the edges and corners afterwards.
I also love using “macro” tools for this: my Milwaukee Sawzall and a DeWalt 1/2″ 8 amp drill. I’ve become used to dental-sized “micro” tools, so using these power monster tools on jewelry is so much fun.
I’m really digging the foam aluminum! I’m putting together an anodizing set-up to add color. Stay tuned.
