Had some more fun with tubing today. It’s kinda 70’s monumental minimalism meets your hand. I can imagine a hospital somewhere commissioned a sculpture like this for the lawn.

My caster didn’t finish today’s piece so at 5pm I had to scramble a bit. I had some sterling wire and fashioned some hammered rings. These are always fun as bracelets, but I’ve discovered they’re quite nice as rings too.

I was getting a lot of deep firescale in my castings, which takes a long time to remove and really kills the shine, so I tried Argentium silver. At first I made castings that were one piece so I wouldn’t have to solder. Today I tried soldering this amazing alloy. I did almost everything wrong, and yet it came out o.k.

It’s fun to carve settings for these big rocks. Quartz comes in so many beautiful varieties with lots of inclusions. My favorite pieces are alway expensive, though. (It’s a good sign that I’m picking the right rocks)

I was playing with the lathe. Wax was flying everywhere. Then I got the idea to chop off the sides of the circle. Simple seems to win pretty often with me.
